On Friday the 8th of May the students in the English Speaking Leagues were rewarded for their efforts all term when they received certificates of participation from their Captains. The Captains come from all walks of life and have all had prestigious careers. They include Sir David Akers Jones, ex Chief Secretary of Hong Kong, Sir Roger Lobo, ex Legislative Council Member, Sir T.L. Yang, ex Chief Justice of Hong Kong, Mr James Blake, Chief Officer of the KC, Prof. Stephen Selby, Associate Professor of English at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Helen Seaton, wife of the British Consul-General. In spite of their busy lives, the Captains have taken the time to nurture our girls’ speaking skills through weekly conversation classes in English. It was touching to see the students’ appreciation expressed through hugs and smiles. Following the ceremony, the guests and students enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. It was a treat for both the students and their Captains to share their mutual feelings of affection over a cup of tea and a chat!
