The Prize-giving Day of Belilios Public School was held on 2 December 2011. It was a great pleasure that Prof Eva Man Kit-wah, Acting Director of the Academy of Visual Arts of the Hong Kong Baptist University, returned to her alma mater to be the guest-of-honour.

The Principal, Ms Wendy Ho Fung-ping, commended the students for their outstanding academic performance in the public examinations, with one student attaining five distinctions in the HKALE. She also reported that the school offered a diversity of activities to broaden students’ horizons, ranging from the exchange tours to England and Singapore to the English Language League with such distinguished leaders as Sir David Akers-Jones and Sir Ti-liang Yang to enhance students’ English skills.

As a well-known scholar in feminist studies in Hong Kong, Prof Man’s speech inspired the students’ reflection on the strengths of women which lie in their perseverance to do well and curiosity about the people and environment around them, and she thought the Principal epitomized such feminine strengths as well. She was also grateful for her education at a girls’ school free of gender stereotypes.

The ceremony ended on a high note with the school symphony orchestra’s winning performance of Richard Wagner’s ‘Grand March from Tannhauster’ and the singing of the school song.
