On 5th May 2016, 32 Folk Dance members participated in the 44th Open Dance Contest organized by Kwun Tong District Culture and Recreation Association. Both senior and junior groups received Gold Awards in the Western Dance (Open) Section. The name of the dance in senior group was Bulgarian Dance. This dance is from the Shoppe region of Bulgaria, the western region of the country. The dancers performed the intricate patterns in the choreography with its typical small, bouncy steps. The name of the dance in junior group was Slovak Dance. This choreography from Eastern Slovakia consists of two dances: Karicka and Flaskovy. Karicka is a traditional circle dance where dancers dance with their bottles of wine in Flaskovy. Both dances are usually performed in festive occasions in which people dance happily for celebrations.
