To enhance students' understanding of the Chinese-style foot drill for the flag-raising ceremony, the Flag-raising Competition was organized for S1 to S3 classes.
Under the guidance of the instructors from the Quality Education Development Centre Limited, all S1-S3 students received training in the Chinese-style foot drill during the All Round Development periods from September to November. The instructors are highly experienced in flag-raising.
The competition was an inter-class event. Through this competition, students’ sense of national identity was strengthened as they practised the Chinese-style foot drill with their classmates. They also learned more about the meanings of the Chinese national flag, national emblem, and anthem, as well as the regional flag and emblem of Hong Kong. Additionally, the competition fostered a sense of unity among the classes. Class teachers coordinated the practices and sang the national anthem together with the students, further instilling in them the importance of observing etiquette during the flag-raising ceremony.
Through the competition, the students performed well in the Chinese-style foot drill and followed the words of command effectively. The students’ good performance received positive feedback from the instructors from the Quality Education Development Centre Limited.
The contribution of the school’s Flag-raising Team was crucial to the success of the event. The team leaders and members provided training for the participants, who became more confident in raising the national flag solemnly and accurately. The Flag-raising Team members also shared their experiences of being part of the team and expressed pride in their role during the flag-raising ceremony. As a result, they encouraged junior form students to join the Flag-raising Team.
