The Study Tour to Japan 2016, organized by the Study Tour and Exchange Programmes Team, comprised of a group of 21 students from S3 and S4 and three teachers. During the 5 days, students visited the heavy industries such as Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Corporation Yawata Works(新日鐵住金株式會社八幡製鐵所), the Kitakyushu Eco Town(北九州環保城), the Hatchobaru Geothermal Power Station(九重八丁原發所)and the Nagasaki Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Company(長崎三菱造船廠). Students also had a chance to visit the historical Kumamoto Castle(熊本城), the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Memorial Museum(長崎原爆紀念館) and Peace Park(平和公園). They had fun seeing the animals at Aso Farm and feeding the seagulls on the ferry from Kumamoto to Nagasaki.
Students worked on two projects in which they looked into the devastating damage done by the atomic bomb and the rebuilding of Nagasaki. They interviewed Professor Simon Shen (沈旭暉教授) before departure and they carried out survey on the Sino-Japanese relationship on the streets of Hakata and Kumamoto. They also gained invaluable experiences in conducting the survey and interacting with the locals. The best part of the tour came at the end when they visited the Nagasaki Junshin Catholic University(長崎天主教純心女子大學)where they attended a lecture by Prof. Simon Hull and interacted with his students. The results will be presented on a webpage in May, 2016.
