On the twenty-sixth of October, the members of BPS Z Club went to Marymount Secondary School to attend a meaningful volunteer training workshop. In the morning, accomplished guests gave enlightening speeches regarding the subject of volunteer work. The speech on the work of Medecins Sans Frontieres was particularly inspiring and the saying “it is more blessed to give than to receive” rings truer than ever. The various workshops in the afternoon also widened our horizons. We were taught how to handle the wheelchairs and were given a chance to experience the world through the eyes of a wheelchair-bound patient. Through being pushed around by another person, we gained more understanding about how a wheelchair-bound patient really feels. This further strengthened our empathy and incentive to participate in more voluntary services to help the needy. All in all, the volunteer training workshop was inspiring and we all benefited a great deal from it.
